When On Your Thailand Vacation It Pays To Bargain - Travel - Travel Tips

Whenever you travel to Thailand one of the first things you see is shops everywhere. From street vendors, to street stores, to large department stores and way beyond, Thailand is a shopper's paradise. You can literally 'shop-till-you-drop' with exhaustion from eyeing way too many great bargains.

But before you jump in there and start loading your bags with everything under the sun, it's good to learn the art to bargaining in Thailand. For starters you'd know that in the larger department stores and malls, the products have fixed prices so bargaining there is almost non existent. However it's out on the street, and in the markets and bazaars, where you can put your skills of bargaining to the test.

The thing about Thailand is that bargaining is normal and quite accepted. It's just a little negotiation between you and the seller, and both can happily meet. After all, they want to sell their goods, and you'd love to buy what they have on offer. For the best price you can get of course!

Before you start your shopping adventure however, it pays to be considerate and sensitive when handling merchandise, and remember to be a courteous shopper too. After all, Thailand is known as the 'land of the smiles' and sellers are much more inclined to give you better prices when you're friendly and respectful. It really does pay to smile!

Another thing that'll help you on your Thailand shopping adventures is to have some Thai language under your belt. Although it's not essential, it's a simple matter to learn a few Thai language basics such as 'how much is this?,' 'thank you' or 'good morning.' Knowing a few words of the local dialect will do you well and the Thais will think highly of you too.

And lastly, it gets pretty hot in the middle of a Thailand day so you might like to get up early and catch the markets when they're just starting. Alternatively, wait until late afternoon to go, and snap up some of the 'end of day' discounts as sellers get more and more keen to offload their products. You'll love it!
