Cheap Hotel Prices vs Hostel Prices

This is a comparison to another of my articles entitled Cheapest Hotel Sites: A Price Comparison. I compared hotels prices for the top 5 budget travel sites from my budget travel directory (http///budgettravel). The top 4 hotel sites are: Ebookers.com, Hotelscombined.com, Hotwire.com and Alpharooms.com. Hotelscombined.com won 4/5 in this experiment. On the same date as this experiment I used the same method to also compare Hostelbookers.com, the other of my top 5 budget travel sites (/top5budgettravelsites). The method is as follows:

Method: I picked 5 random popular European cities that I have been to and compared the rates as of today June 2, 2009 based on vacation dates of Aug 6-9, 2009 (3 nights) (randomly selected dates) for 2 guests in one room. I compare the total price for both people based on the lowest priced hotel they offer, this is a true test for budget travelers! All rates are shown below as the total price for 2 people in Euros. (I used /ucc to convert any amounts that were not converted on the site for me) I have added any extra information that will aid comparison.

Here are the results of the searches I conducted on Hostelbookers.com for each city, for both private and shared rooms. I have added the top hotel listing for that city as well to compare it to.

On the other hand, hotel quality is often higher than that you find in some hostels. Hotels are known for a more reliable level of quality and cleanliness than hostels, but it is so important to do your research because a lot of hostels are nicer than cheap hotels as well. However, you will also notice that some of these searches resulted in actual hotels not hostels. It is also noteworthy that some ratings can vary for each hotel among hostel users and hotel users, for example I found that AAE Hostel Subirats was rated 40% on hotelscombined but it was rated 70.6% at hostelbookers.com. All in all, this study has proven to be informative although I thoroughly recommend researching your options for your best deal, you never know what promotions each site has to offer unless you check.
